Free Medical Camp at Carey Island

AMURT/AMURTEL's medical camp conducted on Sunday, 20th July 2008 at SJKT Pulau Carey Barat wasn’t a great success as anticipated. Our team of doctors and nurses (including a team from the Teluk Panglima Garang Klinik Kesihatan) attended to an estimated total of 250 patients versus 500 which was estimated by the Estate Management. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen reasons, the number got slashed into half. The services provided included vision checks, de-worming medication and pap smear tests, among others. Those needing further medical attention have been given referrals.

Our team comprising 50 Volunteers arrived at the Location at 8.00 a.m. in the morning to set up the venue as well as attending a briefing before the Camp which should have taken off by 9.30 a.m. However, the first patient was only attended at 10.30 a.m. after a massive gate crashing by the estate personals. One team of doctors and nurses who arrived from the Teluk Panglima Garang Health Clinic to run a Presentation with the public had to return home disappointedly due to the poor show up. The camp was ended at 2.00 p.m.

AMURT/EL shall be more prepared with this kind of situations in future as we have undertaken to make it a frequent activity.
